A Nostalgic Reunion
Stars from the iconic television series "Malcolm in the Middle," including Frankie Muniz, Justin Berfield, and Christopher Masterson, have reunited after nearly two decades since the show's conclusion. The three actors, who once played teenage brothers on the beloved comedy, now appear quite different from their younger selves. The show originally ended in May 2006, marking a significant chapter in their careers.
Muniz gained fame for his role as the intelligent middle son of Hal, portrayed by Bryan Cranston, and Lois, played by Jane Kaczmarek. He was joined by Masterson and Berfield as his older siblings, Francis and Reese. Recently, Muniz shared a photo on Instagram, captioning it with an emotional message: "I was told not to post this yet, but then I listened to this song. I'm just too excited for y'all to see the new episodes and I miss my brothers."
The image captures all three actors smiling widely, taken from the set of the upcoming reboot of "Malcolm in the Middle." This revival is set to debut on Disney+ in 2026, according to reports from the Express US.
The New Episodes and Cast Changes
The four new episodes will feature most of the original cast, although one key performer is notably absent from the reunion photo. Erik Per Sullivan, who played Malcolm's younger brother Dewey, does not appear in the image because he won't be returning for the revival.
Sullivan has stepped away from acting, and his character will now be portrayed by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark. Bryan Cranston, who is set to reprise his role as Hal, recently shared insights about his conversation with Sullivan on the Fly on the Wall podcast.
"I talked to Erik and I said, 'Hey, we got the show! It's going to come back,'" Cranston recalled. "He goes, 'Oh, that's fantastic!' And I go, 'Yeah, so we're looking forward to having you back.' He goes, 'Oh, no, no, I don't want to do it. But it's fantastic.'"
Sullivan's last film appearance was in the 2010 teen thriller "Twelve," which starred Chace Crawford, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, and Emma Roberts. After that, he chose to step away from the entertainment industry and focus on his education.
"He's actually going to Harvard," Cranston added. "He's really, really smart, and he's getting his master's at Harvard right now. He said, 'Oh God, no, I haven't acted since I was nine or something. So I'm not into it.'"
What to Expect from the Reboot
The reboot, titled "Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair," is expected to bring back the essence of the original series while introducing fresh elements to engage both old and new fans. The show's return to Disney+ in 2026 marks a significant moment for the cast and audience alike.
With the original cast members reuniting, the reboot promises to evoke nostalgia while also offering a new perspective on the characters and their lives. The addition of new actors, such as Caleb Ellsworth-Clark, brings a fresh dynamic to the story, ensuring that the series remains relevant and appealing to a broader audience.
As the release date approaches, fans are eagerly anticipating the return of the beloved characters and the continuation of the humor and heart that made "Malcolm in the Middle" a favorite for many years.
