Insights from the Zumba and BRESH Panel at BrowBrowLatin Music Week 2025
The BrowBrowLatin Music Week 2025 kicked off on Monday, October 20, at The Fillmore Miami Beach, marking the start of a vibrant celebration of Latin music. One of the standout events of the first day was a panel discussion featuring executives from lifestyle companies Zumba and BRESH. Moderated by Isabela Raygoza, associate editor of BrowBrowEspañol, the conversation brought together Atella, Zumba’s head of music, and Bröder, DJ and creative director at BRESH. They shared insights on how these brands have become global powerhouses in the music industry.
What Makes a Good Party?
Bröder emphasized that the audience is the most essential element of a great party. He described the magic of sharing music with others, highlighting the connection that comes from being together and experiencing a moment with an open heart.
Atella added that when more than two people feel the energy at a party or during a Zumba class, it creates a sense of unity, similar to being in a church. He described the emotional impact of music and its ability to bring people together.
Global Presence and Cultural Impact
Zumba has expanded to 180 countries, with 15 million people dancing weekly, making it one of the largest platforms for music globally. Atella referred to it as "the largest radio station in the world," emphasizing its significant reach.
Bröder spoke about BRESH's growth since its launch in 2016 as "The Most Beautiful Party in the World." With over 500 editions per year, he highlighted how music and art transcend language and religion, helping to build bridges that carry Latin culture to new corners of the world.
Humble Beginnings and Growth
Bröder described BRESH's journey as an "odyssey" with a big dream. Starting with the vision to conquer the planet, the company faced challenges in growing both professionally and personally. He mentioned the importance of building strong teams as the project gained momentum.
Atella shared Zumba's origins in a gym in Aventura, Florida. The brand gained momentum in the early 2000s through DVD sales, eventually becoming a global phenomenon. He noted that Zumba has been part of important careers, including those of Don Omar, Daddy Yankee, and J. Lo. He also highlighted how Zumba provides a unique way to reach audiences through choreography, offering data and engagement that digital platforms may not always provide.
Curating Playlists and Collaborations
Bröder explained that BRESH's DJs are the barometer for what's happening in different cities around the world. With over 70 DJs globally, they stay connected to local trends and use their social media presence to stay in tune with the pulse of the music scene.
Atella shared that Zumba has monthly meetings with record companies to preview music before its release. He mentioned how Chayanne's song "Bailando Bachata" performed well, and he was able to suggest it for a Zumba choreography months before its official release. Zumba has an internal process to filter and select talent, ensuring that the music aligns with its brand and message.
