Exciting Developments for the "Very Young Frankenstein" Series

FX has officially taken a significant step forward in bringing the "Very Young Frankenstein" series to life by granting it a pilot order. This announcement comes just over three months after initial reports on the project's development. The cast has now been revealed, with several notable actors joining the lineup.

Zach Galifianakis, Dolly Wells, Spencer House, Nikki Crawford, and Kumail Nanjiani have all been confirmed as part of the cast. Cary Elwes was previously reported to be involved, and he is now officially confirmed to star in the pilot. While specific character details and the full plot remain under wraps, the series is expected to draw inspiration from Mel Brooks' classic film "Young Frankenstein."

The production team includes some familiar names from FX's successful show "What We Do in the Shadows." Stefani Robinson, who will serve as writer and showrunner, is joined by Taika Waititi, who will direct the pilot. Garrett Basch is also part of the executive producing team. Additional executive producers include Kevin Salter, who has worked with Brooks on projects such as "History of the World, Part 2" and the upcoming "Spaceballs" sequel, as well as Michael Gruskoff, a producer from the original "Young Frankenstein."

20th Television is the studio behind the project, and if the pilot is picked up, the series will stream on Hulu. The show is directed by Mel Brooks, who co-wrote the script with Gene Wilder. "Young Frankenstein" is a beloved parody of Universal monster movies from the 1930s and 1940s. It stars Gene Wilder as Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, who tries to distance himself from his family’s macabre legacy. The film features an ensemble cast including Peter Boyle as the Monster, Marty Feldman as Igor, Cloris Leachman as Frau Blücher, Madeline Kahn as Frederick's fiancée, and Teri Garr as Inga. Brooks also voiced Victor Frankenstein in the film.

"Very Young Frankenstein" is part of a broader trend of projects based on Mel Brooks' classic intellectual property. Hulu previously released a sketch series that served as a follow-up to Brooks' 1981 film "History of the World, Part 1." Additionally, Brooks' 1987 film "Spaceballs," which parodies space operas like "Star Wars," is currently in production for a sequel.

Zach Galifianakis, known for his role in the fourth season of Hulu's "Only Murders in the Building," is represented by UTA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Yorn, Levine, Barnes. Dolly Wells, co-creator and star of HBO's "Doll & Em" alongside Emily Mortimer, has appeared in recent projects such as "And Just Like That…", "Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy," and "Babygirl." She is represented by UTA in the U.S., Independent Talent Group in the UK, and manager Heather Nunn.

Spencer House, who stars in the Hulu series "Tell Me Lies," is also part of the cast of Kathryn Bigelow’s upcoming Netflix film "A House of Dynamite." He is represented by Gersh. Nikki Crawford, who has appeared in series such as "Tracker," "Elsbeth," and "Cruel Intentions," is represented by Artists & Representatives and The Zachary Co. Kumail Nanjiani, set to appear in Neon’s "The Wrong Girls" and TriStar’s "The Breadwinner," is represented by Mosaic and UTA.
