A Tragic Event and a Community's Response

In the heart of Bowling Green, Ohio, Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Retro is more than just a place for fun and nostalgia. It’s a community hub where people come to escape their daily stress and enjoy the simple pleasures of arcade games and retro entertainment. However, recent events have cast a heavy shadow over the store, leaving its owner, Jason Rau, deeply affected.

The tragedy that struck Tiffin has left many in shock and sorrow. A triple murder-suicide occurred, taking the lives of Dustin Willey, 29, his 7-month-old son August, and his 7-year-old daughter Wrenn. The incident, rooted in domestic violence, has shaken the local community and left many questioning how such a devastating event could occur.

Rau, who has known Willey for over five and a half years, shared his emotional response to the news. “It was unbelievable. Honestly, one of our guys came up to me, and when he told me, I just felt sick to my stomach. Couldn’t believe it. I still can’t believe it. It should have never happened, honestly,” he said. For Rau, the loss of someone he considered a close friend and a positive influence on those around him has been particularly painful.

Willey, known for his upbeat attitude and genuine nature, was someone who brought joy to everyone he met. “Just one of the best people you could ever work with. Always had a positive attitude. Just somebody you wanted to be around. So, for anybody who didn’t know Dustin, they were missing out because he was a fantastic guy,” Rau added. His passing has left a void not only in the workplace but also in the lives of those who knew him personally.

In the wake of this tragedy, Rau has taken it upon himself to support the families affected by the incident. He has launched a fundraiser at his store, aiming to collect donations for both the Willey family and the other family involved. “I wanted to just do whatever I could to possibly help out. So, I’ve known Dustin for 5 1/2 years, working every day with him. I’ve actually known the other family for most of my life cause I went to school with their mom, brothers, uncles, you know. So, I just felt like I need to do something,” he explained.

From now until Sunday, November 30, Rau has committed to donating 10% of all sales and 50% of all arcade game plays at Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Retro. Additionally, any cash donations made inside the store will go directly to supporting the families in need. The store, located at 127 S. Main St, Bowling Green, OH, has become a symbol of hope and solidarity in the face of unimaginable loss.

This act of kindness highlights the strength of community bonds and the power of individual action in times of crisis. Rau’s efforts serve as a reminder that even in the darkest moments, there are always people willing to step up and make a difference.
