Key Players Who May Leave the Eagles in 2026
The Philadelphia Eagles’ season came to an abrupt end on Sunday with a 23-19 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the wild-card round of the NFC playoffs at Lincoln Financial Field. This defeat is expected to prompt significant changes within the organization this offseason, with some decisions being more challenging than others.
Here are five key members of the Eagles’ organization who could be on their way out in 2026.
Offensive Coordinator Kevin Patullo
Kevin Patullo’s job as offensive coordinator was hanging by a thread after the Eagles’ playoff exit. His offense, which struggled throughout the season, managed just 308 yards against the 49ers and failed to capitalize on critical moments. The Eagles’ offense ranked near the bottom of every offensive category, and Patullo, who had never called plays at any level before this season, wasn’t able to provide the necessary schematic advantage.
This situation mirrors that of Brian Johnson, the previous offensive coordinator, who was fired after a similar playoff loss in 2023. With the same outcome, it seems likely that Patullo will not return next year.
Wide Receiver A.J. Brown
A.J. Brown has been a focal point of trade speculation for months, with reports suggesting he may become available this offseason. Despite being targeted seven times in the Eagles' loss to the 49ers, Brown caught only three passes for 25 yards and had several drops. His dissatisfaction with his role in the offense and the overall performance of the passing game has fueled these rumors.
If Brown is cut or traded, the financial implications could be significant. If released before June 1, the Eagles would face a dead cap hit of $45 million, while a trade would cost them $16 million. Despite the financial burden, it appears likely that the Eagles and Brown will part ways, allowing him a fresh start in a new offense.
Tight End Dallas Goedert
Dallas Goedert had a standout season, setting an Eagles’ tight end record with 11 touchdowns and adding another on Sunday. However, the Eagles chose not to extend his contract last offseason, instead asking him to take a pay cut to return this season. At 31 years old, Goedert could become a sought-after free agent.
While the Eagles may look to sign or draft a replacement, it's unlikely they’ll find someone as productive as Goedert. The team will need to save money to extend younger players and newly acquired edge rusher Jaelan Phillips, making it possible that Goedert could be on the move.
Linebacker Nakobe Dean
Nakobe Dean has been praised by Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, general manager Howie Roseman, and coach Nick Sirianni for his leadership and impact on the defense. After returning to the starting lineup in late October, the Eagles’ defense transformed from mediocre to elite. Dean recorded 49 tackles and four sacks in eight starts, significantly improving the run defense and pass rush.
Despite his contributions, the Eagles may choose to let Dean go due to the presence of first-round linebacker Jihaad Campbell, who has shown promise this season. While the team typically re-signs players of Dean’s caliber, the long-term upside of Campbell makes it a difficult decision.
Kicker Jake Elliott
Jake Elliott’s performance this season has raised concerns. Although he made both field goals after missing an extra point in the first quarter against the 49ers, that one missed PAT proved costly. Over the last two years, Elliott has been one of the league’s worst kickers, making only 20 of 27 field-goal attempts this season.
The Eagles would face a $11 million dead cap hit if they release Elliott before June 1. They may choose to move on from him early in the offseason or bring in competition during training camp to challenge him for the starting job next year.
