
URBANA, Ill. — The City of Urbana has announced a list of streets that will be closed during the upcoming CU Pride Fest. This information comes as part of the preparations for the event, which is set to take place on Saturday, October 25.
The City of Urbana Public Works Department has approved a Special Event Permit Application from the United Pride Center of Champaign County for the Pride Fest 2025. As part of the planning, several streets across the city will be temporarily closed to accommodate the festivities.
New blood screening technology comes to Urbana
The following streets will be closed from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. to allow for a vendor fair and related activities:
- Main Street from the Main Street/Springfield Avenue split to Broadway Avenue
- Race Street from Elm Street to approximately one block north of Main Street
- Water Street between Broadway Avenue and Vine Street
Additionally, West Elm Street between South Cedar and South Race Streets will be closed from approximately noon to 8 p.m.
The fest will feature a parade starting at 1 p.m. During this time, the following streets will be closed from 12:45 p.m. to approximately 2:30 p.m.:
- Illinois Street between Vine and Race Streets
- Race Street between Illinois and Elm Streets
- Elm Street from Cedar Street to Broadway Avenue
- Broadway Avenue from Elm to Water Street
Once the last of the parade participants have passed through, roads and intersections on the parade route will be reopened.
For the event, parking restrictions will be in place. Specifically:
- Parking will not be permitted in City Lot 24 on Illinois Street and City Lots 1, 5, and 9 on Water Street from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- On-street parking on West California Avenue between Vine and Race Streets will be prohibited from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. to accommodate MTD bus routes
Residents and visitors in the area should expect delays during the event on Saturday.
