A new initiative is set to launch on Wednesday, with the goal of providing stronger support for Charlotte's vibrant music scene. This effort, known as Music Everywhere CLT, is collaborating with several key organizations including the Arts and Science Council, Charlotte Is Creative, Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, FAIR PLAY Music Equity Initiative, Tosco Music, and the Knight Foundation. Together, they are working to bring the 2025 Charlotte Music Census to life.

"The Charlotte Music Census helps shine a light on the people and places that make our creative community thrive—and ensures they’re part of the city’s vision going forward," said Rick Thurmond of Music Everywhere CLT and Charlotte Center City Partners. "To shape the future of our music scene, we have to start by understanding the present."
This initiative is specifically designed to gather input from individuals actively involved in the music field. This includes professionals, semi-professionals, and students who work full- or part-time in the music industry. The target audience encompasses musicians, live performers, industry professionals, music educators, concert venue owners, and industry support service providers. Participants must be at least 18 years old and either reside in or work within the Charlotte area.
The results of the census are expected to be shared with the community in early 2026. Those involved in the project believe that the data collected will play a crucial role in shaping strategies to support live music, improve access to professional development opportunities, boost audience engagement, address affordability issues, and guide future investments in Charlotte’s creative economy.
The census officially opened on Wednesday at 10 a.m. and will remain open until November 12. This is a critical opportunity for those in the music industry to share their perspectives and help shape the future of Charlotte's cultural landscape.
