Garden City Marching Band Achieves Strong Start to the Season
Garden City High School’s Garden City Marching Band (GCMB) made a strong impression in its first competitions of the season, showcasing their talent and dedication. The band traveled to West Milford, New Jersey, where they earned second place, according to the district. Their performance was not only impressive but also recognized with several awards.
The GCMB Trojans scored an 80.80, which was enough to secure their position as runners-up. In addition to the overall placement, the band received three notable awards: Best Color Guard, Best Percussion, and Best Visuals. These accolades highlight the band’s well-rounded performance and attention to detail in every aspect of their show.
“The level of commitment from our students and staff is exceptional, and it shows in their field performance,” said District Coordinator of Music and Arts Ms. Akira Regan in a release. “This achievement reflects the vision, skill, and teamwork of everyone involved. Our students’ hard work at every rehearsal pays off, and I’m excited to see their continued growth this season. We are also grateful to our parent association for their support on and off the field.”
A Second Win at MetLife Stadium
The band’s success continued when they competed at MetLife Stadium on October 18. This time, they placed second out of 12 competing bands, earning an impressive score of 84.80. Once again, they were awarded Best Visuals, reinforcing their reputation for excellence in performance and presentation.

“Performance at MetLife Stadium is always a highlight of our season,” said Mr. DanDellaMonica, director of the GCMB. “Earning second place at this prestigious venue is especially meaningful and is a testament to the dedication of our instructors, staff, and most importantly, our students.”
Continued Growth and Recognition
The GCMB has consistently demonstrated its ability to compete at a high level, and these early-season results are a promising sign for the rest of the year. The band’s achievements reflect the hard work and collaboration between students, staff, and parents. Their success in both local and regional competitions sets a strong foundation for future performances.
Some key factors contributing to the band’s success include:
- Strong leadership from directors and coordinators who guide the students through rigorous rehearsals and performances.
- Teamwork and unity among members, which is essential for creating cohesive and dynamic performances.
- Support from the community, including the parent association, which plays a vital role in providing resources and encouragement.
As the season progresses, the GCMB is expected to continue building on this momentum. With each competition, the band gains more experience and confidence, further solidifying its place as one of the top marching bands in the region.
The upcoming events will provide new opportunities for the GCMB to showcase their talents and continue their journey of growth and excellence. For now, the band can take pride in their early-season accomplishments and look forward to what lies ahead.
