BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Birmingham Police and Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama are reaching out to the public for assistance in solving the murder of a 63-year-old Bessemer woman who was killed over two years ago.
In October 2023, Trudy Wilder Mustin was found shot inside her car. A ShotSpotter alert led police to 15th Street Southwest in west Birmingham, where they discovered Mustin suffering from gunshot wounds. She was later pronounced dead at UAB Hospital.
According to police, the initial investigation suggests that the shooting resulted from an argument between two groups. Multiple individuals were detained and questioned by homicide detectives in connection with the incident, but they were all eventually released.
Despite the passage of time, the case has remained unsolved. However, law enforcement officials have not abandoned their efforts to find answers.
“Birmingham homicide detectives have been working on this case for two years now, and they need more information than what they currently have. Sometimes they have everything they need to build a case, but they require one small piece of information — and that might be something you know,” said Bob Copus, executive director of Crime Stoppers.
Anyone with information related to this case is encouraged to come forward. Individuals can contact Birmingham Police or Crime Stoppers while remaining anonymous. There is a cash reward of up to $5,000 available for any information that leads to the resolution of this case.
