
And the winner is ... Congratulations to Brenden Daller of the Canterbury School, this week's Lee County High School Student of the Week. Brenden came out on top by collecting 61% of the votes that were cast. Sydney McDonald of the Evangelical Christian School (28%) was this week's runner-up.
The News-Press, in collaboration with Lee County high school principals and their staffs, is putting top students in the spotlight.
A new poll of nominees will be published on Monday (Oct. 27). The voting period will end at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30.
Here is the nomination for Brenden Daller: Brenden Daller-Canterbury School Brenden Daller is a senior at Canterbury School in Fort Myers. Ambitious, driven, talented, and kind, Brenden has excelled both in and out of the classroom. With an all Honors and AP course load, he has remained among the top of his class since freshman year and is a proud member of several honor societies, including Mu Alpha Theta, Chinese, NEHS, Science, and NHS. As vice president of the student body, Brenden takes pride in leading his peers and leaving a positive legacy for future generations. A dedicated student-athlete, he faced a season-changing football injury this year but continues to support his team and looks forward to returning to the wrestling mat. Known for his respect, generosity, and strong character, Brenden exemplifies the best of Canterbury. As he looks ahead to a future in health and sports medicine, we can’t wait to see all he will accomplish.
Here are the accomplishments for this week's other nominees: Sydney McDonald-Evangelical Christian School (ECS) Sydney McDonald is a 10th grade student at Evangelical Christian School (ECS). She is a strong academic student who is very active on the Chapel Worship Team at school and at church. At church, Sydney just started worshipping on stage but she has been worshiping with the Children’s Ministry since 7th grade. Sydney attended the first year of Student Leadership University, which is a four year program, and two years of the Global Leadership Summit. Sydney has gone on two missions trips in Daytona, Florida and the other in El Salvador, where she served in the community, at a local school, and worked with an orphanage for teenagers. Sydney was a member of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) in 8th grade and worked backstage for the school musical the past two years. She loves spending time with her family and friends.
Tiana Hill-North Fort Myers High School
Tiana Hill
is a driven and talented 9th grade student whose passion for learning anything and everything and growth shines through in everything she does. A gifted violinist, she brings dedication and creativity to the arts, while also excelling as a committed basketball player on the court. She doesn't stop there as she is also in JROTC. Her ability to balance academics, athletics, and music demonstrates her determination and work ethic.
Known by her peers and teachers as a natural leader, Tiana strives to inspire others through her positive attitude and willingness to take initiative. She is always eager to challenge herself, both inside and outside of the classroom, and her dedication sets her apart as a role model in her school. With big dreams for the future to be an anesthesiologist where her passion can make a difference.
Bryson Glover-Fort Myers High School Fort Myers High School is proud to recognize Bryson Glover as this week’s Student of the Week. Bryson is an outstanding young man whose exemplary character, dedication, and leadership set him apart from his peers.
A true student-athlete, Bryson demonstrates equal commitment in the classroom and on the field. A senior with a 3.7 GPA, he is an active member of the Scholars Club and is known throughout campus for his ever-present smile, kind heart, and strong work ethic. His positive energy is felt wherever he goes, and he is admired by both students and staff.
"Bryson is a humble, hard-working, and respectful young man—the type that still says, ‘yes sir’ and ‘yes ma'am’ when being spoken to by adults," said Justin Midgett, one of Bryson’s football coaches. "He is constantly trying to improve as a student, as an athlete, and as a person. He leads by example both in the classroom and on the field, where he personifies ‘student-athlete’ and sets a standard for others to follow."
Bryson’s impact reaches beyond athletics. Ms. Everhart, his AP Photography teacher, shared: "I had Bryson in AP Photo when he was in 10th grade. He is always sweet, and he has matured into a role model for younger students. I'm very proud of him and admire his consistently generous, positive attitude."
Former English teacher Mr. Arciero noted: "Bryson is a talented athlete and confident student who builds strong relationships with his teachers and classmates. He takes his academics seriously, recognizing how they prepare him for future goals. Bryson aspires to lead a good Christian life and be a positive example for his peers."
His College and Career Specialist, Mrs. Butts, added: "Bryson is always looking to improve himself. He is devoted to setting goals and achieving them. It’s refreshing to see that level of maturity in someone his age. I can’t wait to see how far he goes, and I will truly miss him when he graduates. Students like that are extremely rare."
Fort Myers High School is honored to celebrate Bryson Glover as Student of the Week. He is a shining example of the Green Wave spirit—dedicated, kind, and destined for greatness.
