Cheryl Hines Speaks About Her Relationship with Larry David and a Skiing Adventure
Cheryl Hines, known for her role in the hit show Curb Your Enthusiasm, recently opened up about her relationship with her former co-star, Larry David. In an interview on the Hot Mics podcast, she revealed that she hasn’t spoken to David since the show’s April 2024 finale. According to Hines, the reason for their silence is tied to “politics.”
“I haven’t talked to him in a while,” Hines said during the conversation. “I love Larry, and I think Larry loves me.” She added, “I think it’s just politics, it makes conversations…” before the host, Billy Bush, interjected with a reminder of David’s past actions.
Bush brought up a notable moment in David’s career when he wrote a New York Times article titled “Dinner with Hitler,” which was a critique of comedian Bill Maher. “You can’t take it personally,” Bush said, highlighting the sensitive nature of such public disagreements.
A Surprising Skiing Trip with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
In addition to discussing her relationship with David, Hines shared a memorable story from a 2004 trip where she ended up skiing with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was then married to Mary Richardson Kennedy, and David. The three were at a charity event organized by Hines’ former costar, but the plan was to attend a dinner that night.
“We were just going to go to the dinner that night, but somehow we got there, and the next thing you know, people are fitting us in skis,” Hines recalled. She described how Kennedy, who would later become her husband, had “people getting skis for us” and then “next thing I know, we're on the ski slope and it's like, ‘What just happened?’”
Hines also highlighted how polite Kennedy was during the experience. “I didn’t have a hat… I wasn’t prepared to ski,” she said. “And that was before people wore helmets, there were probably people wearing helmets, and it’s always a good idea when you’re skiing, but I didn’t have a helmet, I didn’t have a knit hat or anything.”
She continued, “And Bobby said, ‘You’re going to be cold, you need this hat,’ and he took his hat off and gave it to me. And then Larry was like, ‘Oh, okay, I would have given you my hat, but I’m bald.’”
A Personal Connection
Hines and Kennedy married in August 2014, and she described their relationship as one filled with kindness and respect. Their skiing adventure, while unexpected, became a memorable moment that showcased their personalities and the unique dynamics of their group.
The story of the skiing trip not only highlights the unpredictable nature of life but also offers a glimpse into the personal connections that form outside of professional settings. Whether it was the spontaneity of the event or the simple act of sharing a hat, the experience left a lasting impression on Hines.
Reflections on Public Life and Relationships
As Hines continues to navigate her personal and professional life, her reflections on relationships—both with co-stars and family members—offer insight into the complexities of maintaining connections in a world often shaped by public perception. From the challenges of political differences to the joys of unexpected adventures, her experiences underscore the importance of understanding and empathy in both personal and public spheres.
Her openness about these moments serves as a reminder that even in the spotlight, personal stories can reveal the human side of those we admire.
