Decatur City Council Approves Major Investment in Rock the South
Decatur City Council members gathered for a meeting on Monday night to discuss and vote on a significant resolution involving a partnership with Rock the South. The resolution was approved by the council with a 4-1 vote, marking a major step forward for the city’s investment in the event.
As part of the agreement, the city of Decatur will be investing $5 million into Rock the South over the course of five years. This financial commitment is expected to bring substantial economic benefits to the area. In addition to the funding, the city will also receive 50% of the total parking revenue and 10% of the camping fee from the event.
Chase Grisham, the city of Decatur’s liaison to Rock the South, emphasized the importance of this partnership. He highlighted that the investment is not just about money but also about ensuring long-term economic growth for the city. "In reference to economic impact, I think it’s historic. This is a great investment for the city. 100%. I know it seems like a lot of money, but in the grand scheme of things, this is a great, great return on that investment," Grisham stated.
Grisham also noted that Rock the South is making its own significant contributions to the partnership. The event is investing time and resources, including $50,000 annually on infrastructure upgrades. He expressed confidence in the success of the collaboration, stating that it is a proven model that has worked for 14 years in Cullman and can do the same in Decatur.
The lineup of performers for Rock the South is set to be announced soon, and Grisham described it as one of the best he has ever seen. "It’s so good, it’s the best. It’s the best I’ve seen. It is top-to-bottom star-studded, and all these people will be in Decatur, Alabama. I can guarantee they’ve never even heard of Decatur, Alabama," he said.
While Grisham could not reveal the full list of artists at this time, he mentioned that some of the performers have not been seen at Rock the South in years. The official lineup is expected to be released on Tuesday, and fans are eagerly awaiting the announcement.
