Student Assaulted in Towson University Parking Lot

Campus Safety Concerns Rise After Assault Incident

A recent incident at Towson University has raised concerns among students and faculty about safety on campus. According to the Towson University Police Department (TUPD), a student was assaulted after being followed onto an on-campus parking lot on Thursday morning.

The incident occurred around 9 a.m., when a student reported being followed by a man in a dark-colored car into Parking Lot 11. The suspect then exited his vehicle, physically assaulted the student, damaged their tire, and fled the scene. TUPD is currently investigating the matter, and the suspect has not yet been identified.

Student Reactions and Concerns

Nathaniel Obeng, a sophomore at Towson, expressed surprise at the event. "I'm pretty surprised to see that happen," he said.

Madelyn McKeon, another sophomore who lives near the parking lot and often parks there, shared her thoughts. "It was later on that the alert came out, and I was thinking, like, I was right by the area at the time and had no idea," she said.

Brooke Philemon, a fellow sophomore, noted that while the assault occurred off-campus, it was followed back onto campus. "OK it happened off campus, but it got followed back on campus. Like, who knows who could've been around," she said.

Impact on Students

The incident has left some students feeling uneasy. Lisbeth Sosa, a sophomore, mentioned that the concern is particularly heightened for lower-class students and freshmen. "A little bit, mostly for the lower class, for freshmen, because they're transferring and they're new to this area," she said.

Michael Bell, a freshman, admitted he's worried about the situation and doesn't know how many assaults occur on campus. "I don't know if it's like she accidentally cut him off or something," McKeon added. "That would be crazy, like if I accidentally did something and that was your reaction."

Ongoing Investigation and Calls for Information

TUPD has confirmed that the suspect exited Parking Lot 11 and left campus. At this time, the individual remains unidentified. The department is urging anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 410-704-4444.
