Tim Curry's Ongoing Struggle with Mobility After a Stroke

Tim Curry, the 79-year-old actor best known for his iconic role as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, has been open about his ongoing battle with mobility issues following a stroke nearly 13 years ago. Despite his age and the time that has passed since the incident, Curry continues to face significant challenges in regaining full movement in his legs.

During a special screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show held on September 26 to celebrate the film’s 50th anniversary, Curry shared some candid insights into his current condition. He explained that he is still unable to walk and relies on a chair for mobility, which he humorously referred to as “a silly chair.” This limitation, he admitted, is quite restrictive.

“I still can’t walk, which is why I’m in this silly chair,” Curry told the audience. “That’s very limiting.” He also joked about his inability to perform, saying, “I won’t be singing and I won’t be dancing very soon. I still have real problems with my left leg.”

Curry suffered a stroke in 2012, an event that drastically altered his physical abilities. Interestingly, he wasn’t aware he was experiencing a medical emergency at the time. According to his recollection, he was receiving a massage when the incident occurred. “I was having a massage at the time and I didn’t even actually notice anything,” he said. “But the guy who was doing the massage said, ‘I’m worried about you, I want to call an ambulance.’ And he did, and I said, ‘That’s so silly.’”

This isn’t the first time Curry has spoken publicly about his recovery. One year after the stroke, his agent confirmed the incident and emphasized that Curry was “doing great.” At the time, his representative told the Daily Mail, “Tim is doing great. He absolutely can speak and is recovering at this time and in great humor.”

Despite the challenges, Curry remains optimistic about his health and is grateful for the opportunity to participate in events like the 50th-anniversary celebration of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The film, which also features Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, and Meat Loaf, has had a lasting impact on cinema over the past five decades.

At the event, Curry expressed his excitement about being part of the celebration. “I’m so excited by this and very honored by the Academy to do this presentation of our movie, which has dragged on for 50 years,” he quipped.
