Leighton Meester Surprised by the Release of Old Music Tracks

Leighton Meester, known for her iconic role as Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl, recently shared an unexpected update about her early music career. Two songs that were originally intended for her unreleased 2009 pop album have been made available on music streaming services this August. The tracks, "Body Control" and "Your Lies Are the Truth / Almost Perfect," were released without much fanfare, catching the actress off guard.

In an exclusive interview, Meester admitted she had no prior knowledge of the release. “I hate to say, but I don't exactly know what [happened],” she said, referring to the sudden availability of the tracks. She explained that sometimes contracts with streaming platforms can expire and get renewed, which might explain why these songs suddenly appeared online. “I think sometimes a contract randomly expires and then is renewed with some streaming platforms, so that kind of thing just pops up and it seems like it's newly on there,” she added.

Meester also mentioned that she has been busy with other projects, which contributed to her not being aware of the release. “I've had other stuff going on. I had a show come out this year, and I was working on that, so I just hadn't really paid attention,” she said.

A Musical Journey Through the Years

Throughout her career, Meester has dabbled in music, releasing several songs over the years. She collaborated with Robin Thicke on "Somebody to Love" and had a top-10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with the Cobra Starship collaboration "Good Girls Go Bad." She also contributed to the 2010 film Country Strong, starring alongside Gwyneth Paltrow and Tim McGraw, by recording a few country songs.

After taking a break from music, Meester returned with a more folk-oriented album called Heartstrings. Despite her success in acting, she has always maintained a passion for making music. In a recent interview with Bustle, she discussed her decision to step back from pop music. “I just didn’t feel like I sang that well in those songs,” she said. “That’s why I stopped doing that style of songwriting, because I didn’t feel really good when I would sing it. That was something that I figured out in my 20s.”

Looking Ahead

Now that "Body Control" and "Your Lies Are the Truth / Almost Perfect" are available for fans to stream, Meester is excited about the opportunity to share these older tracks with her audience. “I'm really glad that BroNews can hear it,” she told BroNews. “I enjoy making music, and I want to continue doing it, hopefully sometime soon.”

Despite her busy schedule, which includes her role in the television series Good Cop/Bad Cop and her upcoming appearance in season 2 of Nobody Wants This, Meester remains committed to her musical endeavors. She is set to star opposite her husband, Adam Brody, in the new season of the show.

What’s Next?

Meester’s music is currently available for purchase and streaming. Fans can look forward to season 2 of Nobody Wants This, which will premiere on October 23. With her continued presence in both acting and music, it’s clear that Meester is not slowing down anytime soon. Her journey through the entertainment industry continues to evolve, and fans are eager to see what comes next.
