A New Chapter for Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese

Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese have long been celebrated for their collaborative efforts, producing some of the most iconic films in modern cinema. From The Wolf of Wall Street to Gangs of New York and Shutter Island, their partnership has consistently delivered critically acclaimed and commercially successful projects. Now, the legendary duo is set to embark on a new venture, a ghost story adaptation titled What Happens at Night. This will be their seventh film together, marking another milestone in their storied career.

The upcoming film features Jennifer Lawrence, who previously worked with DiCaprio in Don’t Look Up. The movie is expected to begin filming in January 2026, with Apple Original Films in discussions to finance the project alongside Studiocanal. The film’s plot centers around an American couple trying to salvage their marriage by traveling to a snowy European town to adopt a baby. They stay at the Borgarfjaroasysla Grand Imperial Hotel, where they encounter peculiar characters such as a faith healer, a corrupt businessman, and a flamboyant chanteuse. As the story unfolds, the couple begins to realize that nothing is as it seems in this strange location, and they must confront their own challenges while fighting to adopt the child.

The script for What Happens at Night was written by Patrick Mather after Studiocanal acquired the rights to the novel. The film promises to blend suspense, drama, and supernatural elements, offering a fresh take on the horror genre.

DiCaprio's Latest Film: One Battle After Another

In addition to his work on What Happens at Night, DiCaprio is set to appear in One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Anderson. The film is scheduled for release on September 26, 2025. In the movie, DiCaprio plays Bob Ferguson, a character who reunites with his former group of revolutionaries to battle an old enemy, played by Sean Penn. The story also involves rescuing his daughter, Willa. Other notable actors in the film include Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and Del Toro.

During an interview with co-star Benicio Del Toro, DiCaprio shared some personal stories from his early days in Hollywood. He recounted how he was once advised to change his name because it was considered "too ethnic." At the time, he was just 12 or 13 years old and had recently secured an agent. His agent suggested that his name, Leonardo DiCaprio, might be a barrier to getting roles. “They said, ‘Your name is too ethnic,’” DiCaprio recalled. “I go, ‘What do you mean? It’s Leonardo DiCaprio?’ They go, ‘No, too ethnic. They’re never going to hire you. Your new name is Lenny Williams.’”

He continued, “I said, ‘What is Lenny?’ I was 12, 13. I said, ‘What is Lenny Williams?’ ‘We took your middle name and we made it — now you’re Lenny.’” This anecdote highlights the challenges that many actors face when entering the industry, especially those with names that may not fit traditional Hollywood molds.

Looking Ahead

With two major projects on the horizon, DiCaprio continues to demonstrate his versatility and commitment to his craft. Whether it’s through a supernatural thriller or an action-packed adventure, his performances consistently captivate audiences. As fans eagerly await the release of One Battle After Another and the production of What Happens at Night, it’s clear that DiCaprio remains one of the most influential figures in the entertainment industry.
