Austin's Food Scene: A Celebration of Anniversaries and New Beginnings

Austin’s food scene continues to evolve with each passing week and year. While many new restaurants are opening, there are still some long-standing favorites that have managed to stay relevant and cherished by locals. This week, we’re highlighting three significant anniversaries that showcase the city’s dynamic culinary landscape.

New Beginnings at Juliet Italian Kitchen

One of the most notable changes in the Austin food scene is the rebranding of Juliet Italian Kitchen. The Georgetown location, situated at 701 S. Main St., is undergoing a transformation into a new concept called Juliet Social. According to a press release, this new venture will be a "cafe-style restaurant" with event spaces available for reservation. The rebranding comes as a response to customer demand and is set to launch on Wednesday, October 29.

The ground floor of the space will remain open to the public, serving lunch from 11:30 am to 3 pm on Wednesdays through Mondays. Additionally, the same area will transform into a "speakeasy-style lounge" during special community events. Guests can check the neon "open" sign in the window to determine if the space is available or reserved for private events.

Celebrating Milestones in Austin

Independence Brewing, a woman-owned brewery, is celebrating its 21st anniversary on October 25. The event will feature a Weezer tribute band, Wrestle with Jimmy, along with food truck Cockti Juicy Fried Chicken. Guests can enjoy Y2K trivia and participate in an open skate jam. As part of the celebration, the brewery is launching the Be Rad Board, an online community challenge board where fans can earn points by trying new beers, attending events, and volunteering. These points can be redeemed for merchandise from the online store, with more perks to come.

Another local business, Pinthouse Pizza, is also marking a milestone on October 25. The combination brewery and pizzeria is celebrating its 13th anniversary at its Burnet Road location. The celebration includes a new beer, the hazy Static Memories Anniversary Hazy DIPA, small-batch barrel-aged releases, and limited edition merch. Additional activities include free arcade games, live airbrush art, a Pixster photo booth, and an '80s–2000s costume contest. The event is free and open to the public.

Pop-Up Experiences and Community Events

Aaron Franklin’s New Orleans-inspired eatery, Upto wn Sports Club, is hosting another round of the Frankie’s Supper Club pop-up series every Sunday evening from October 26 through February 26. This reservation-only event features dishes not found on the regular Uptown menu, such as pork schnitzel, Parisian gnocchi, and fried sweet potatoes. There’s also a new cocktail menu with zero-proof options. The event runs from 5-10 pm, and guests can still order from a shorter version of the regular menu if they just want to watch the game on the patio.

A Special Evening for Environmental Advocates

The Hill Country Alliance, a coalition of environmental groups and land stewards, is hosting a 20th anniversary barbecue dinner on November 8. Tickets for the event are available until October 28. The evening will include an open bar, non-alcoholic beverages, and live music by Bruce Robison, Will & The Wilderness, Katie Shore, and surprise guests. The event takes place under the stars from 4-9 pm at Knibbe Ranch (9836 Spring Branch Rd.) in Spring Branch.

Tickets are priced at $100 for adults 13 and up, $50 for kids 3-12, and free for children 2 and under. This celebration highlights the importance of environmental stewardship while offering a unique dining experience for the community.
