A Cliffhanger Ending and the Fate of Blade Knight
The latest animated entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, "Marvel Zombies," has left fans with a gripping cliffhanger. The finale saw Kamala Khan, also known as Ms. Marvel, succumbing to the Red Queen, Wanda Maximoff. It appeared that she had restored the world to its original state, free from zombies. However, Kamala's uncertainty about whether she was still trapped in a nightmare remains. One thing is clear: the friends who stood by her during the battle for survival are no longer present. Yet, there is a possibility that one of them might return.
After witnessing the horrifying scenes where Shang Chi, Ant-Man, and others were overwhelmed, it's safe to say that the final stand against the undead was indeed their last. However, one character did not meet his end through a bite but rather faced the wrath of an undead god. Despite his formidable skills, the show's standout character, Blade Knight, was no match for the overwhelming power of a zombie Thor. The thunderous attack reduced Blade Knight to nothing, leaving no trace of him. While this exit was undeniably intense, Blade Knight's existence is significant not just for "Marvel Zombies," but for the entire MCU. As a vampire-killer, his defeat at the hands of the undead thunder god seemed permanent. But as the Fist of Khonshu, could he make a comeback if another deity allows it?
The Role of Khonshu in Blade Knight’s Potential Return
Khonshu, the Egyptian god of the moon and protector of travelers of the night, is known for offering second chances to his avatars. This is evident in both comic lore and the "Moon Knight" series, where Marc Spector, the Moon Knight of Earth-616, was brought back to life after nearly dying. His revival led to further missions under Khonshu's guidance. In the comics, there have been multiple instances where Marc was resurrected, most recently during the "Death of Moon Knight" story event. Given these repeated resurrections, there is a possibility that if "Marvel Zombies" returns for a second season, Blade Knight might also come back.
During the heroes' trip to New Asgard, Blade's connection with Khonshu seemed strong and respectful, which is a notable shift from previous interactions. If Khonshu chooses to bring Blade back, he could rejoin Kamala's efforts. Alternatively, the next season might introduce a new hero to take on the Moon Knight's mission.
Could a New Moon Knight Emerge in Season 2?
One of the most exciting aspects of the animated MCU has been the merging of powers between characters. Shows like "What If...?" featured Storm using Mjolnir and Spider-Man wearing Doctor Strange's cape. Now, we've seen what happens when Khonshu enlists the powers of the Daywalker. While there is a chance Blade Knight might return, it could be intriguing if the next season introduces a new Moon Knight instead.
With the inclusion of X-Men characters in the animated realm, there is potential for figures like Nightcrawler or Wolverine to join forces with the Fist of Khonshu. In the comics, Wolverine was one of the first heroes Kamala met, making for a meaningful nod. Additionally, the latest protector of K'un-Lun, The Iron Fist, who made their MCU debut in "Eyes of Wakanda," could serve as a fitting replacement for Blade Knight, possibly with an even more impressive look.
Looking Ahead for "Marvel Zombies"
As fans await any news about a potential second season of "Marvel Zombies," the question remains: will Kamala find protection under the moonlight? With the possibilities of Blade Knight's return or a new Moon Knight emerging, the future of the series holds exciting potential. Whether it's a familiar face or a fresh one, the continuation of this story could bring new adventures and challenges for Kamala and her allies.
