Nostalgic Reunion of “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” Cast
Christmas movie fans were treated to a heartwarming moment when the iconic cast of “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” reunited for a family photo. The gathering took place at the Rhode Island Comic Con, where Chevy Chase, Beverly D’Angelo, Juliette Lewis, and Randy Quaid posed together. This marked the first time the actors had come together since their roles in the 1989 film, which has become a beloved holiday classic.
Lewis, who played the character Audrey, shared the photo on Instagram with a message that read, “Merry Christmas from the Griswolds! Love my movie family.” The post quickly gained traction, with fans expressing their excitement over the reunion. Many commented on how thrilled they were to see the cast back together again. One fan wrote, “The reunion we were all waiting for!” while another added, “Y’all look great! The best Christmas movie. Period.”
Even some famous fans of the film joined in on the celebration. Dan Levy, known for his role in “Schitt’s Creek,” commented with a heart eyes emoji. Marisol Nichols, who portrayed Audrey in “National Lampoon’s Vegas Vacation,” wrote, “Merry early Christmas from one Audrey to another.” Meanwhile, Rose McGowan expressed her joy by saying, “Heaven exists.”
The 1989 film, which is the third installment in National Lampoon magazine's Vacation movie series, features Chase as the patriarch Clark Griswold, D’Angelo as his exasperated wife Ellen, and Lewis as their daughter Audrey. Quaid played the memorable character of Cousin Eddie, who causes chaos by parking his trailer in the Griswold driveway. The film was an instant success, grossing over $73 million at the box office.
Over the years, the movie has inspired numerous Christmas decorations, TV ads, and festive light displays. Its popularity led to a spin-off in 2003 titled “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation 2,” which saw Quaid reprise his role as Cousin Eddie.
At this year’s Rhode Island Comic Con, the cast members not only posed for photos but also interacted with fans. Chase was also present at the event alongside his co-stars from the 1995 film “Fletch.” Other notable celebrities who attended included Rainn Wilson, Bryce Dallas Howard, Geena Davis, Denise Richards, Marisa Tomei, and Molly Ringwald. Additionally, cast members from other iconic films such as “Pretty in Pink” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” made appearances.
This weekend’s reunion came just days after the passing of Diane Ladd, who played Clark’s mother Norah Griswold in the movie. Ladd, who was 89 years old, passed away on November 3. Her daughter, Laura Dern, announced the news on social media. In a heartfelt statement, Dern described her mother as “the greatest daughter, mother, grandmother, actress, artist and empathetic spirit that only dreams could have seemingly created.” She added, “We were blessed to have her. She is flying with her angels now.”
The legacy of “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” continues to live on, with its timeless humor and unforgettable characters bringing joy to fans around the world. Whether through the original film, its spin-off, or the nostalgic reunions of its cast, the Griswold family remains a cherished part of holiday traditions.
