Community Comes Together for Annual Red Kettle Run

In Shreveport, Louisiana, the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary organized its annual Red Kettle Run at LSUS to raise funds for essential programs that provide meals and support to individuals and families in need. This event not only highlights the importance of community involvement but also showcases the ongoing efforts of the Salvation Army to assist those facing hardship.

Julie Allen, the development director for the Salvation Army of Northwest Louisiana, expressed confidence in the community's ability to come together during challenging times. She emphasized the organization's commitment to ensuring that people who are hungry, struggling with utilities, or needing assistance with other aspects of life can find the support they need.

“We know it’s very scary times, but we also know God’s going to provide. We are here to be able to ensure that those who are hungry, those who need help with utilities, and those who need help with just next steps in other support get it,” said Allen.

For over 150 years, the Salvation Army has been a vital resource for many individuals and families, helping them navigate difficult situations and regain stability. Anna Pullano, a long-time supporter of the organization, shared her personal experience of receiving charity from the Salvation Army as a child. She understands the impact of such support on children and families, and she believes the Salvation Army is uniquely positioned to provide both practical assistance and emotional support.

“I was fortunate enough to receive charity from the Salvation Army as a kid, so I know that some of these kids and some of these families need that type of support and love, and the Salvation Army is really good at giving that,” said Pullano.

Jeff Johnson, the chairman of the Salvation Army advisory board, expressed his gratitude for the continued support from the community. He noted that while there are many events and opportunities for community engagement, the local residents consistently choose to support the Red Kettle Run.

“They could go to different runs, but they come and support our run, and we appreciate that. You know, going that extra mile, no pun intended, is something that we appreciate,” said Johnson.

The Red Kettle Run is just one of many initiatives undertaken by the Salvation Army to address the needs of the community. From providing meals to offering utility assistance, the organization remains dedicated to making a difference in the lives of those it serves.

Community members are encouraged to participate in future events and continue supporting the Salvation Army’s mission. Whether through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading awareness, every contribution helps to create a stronger, more compassionate community.
