Local Businesses Prepare for Big Shopping Weekend
As the holiday season approaches, more than 150 small businesses in Lubbock and the surrounding area are gearing up for what many consider the biggest shopping weekend of the year. This event is taking place at KK’s Corner Mall, a well-known hub for local vendors offering a wide variety of products.
The mall is home to a diverse range of sellers, from clothing and home decor to natural products, artisan crafts, and kitchen supplies. Each vendor brings something unique to the table, making the mall a one-stop shop for holiday shoppers looking for personalized and quality items.
“We really are like one big family,” said Kristi Frazier, who handles marketing for KK’s Corner Mall. “There’s a strong sense of community here, and it shows in the way the vendors interact with each other and with customers.”
In addition to everyday goods, some vendors offer special services such as gift basket creation, engraving, and monogramming. These services allow shoppers to find unique, thoughtful gifts that reflect personal touches. From Black Friday through Small Business Saturday and Sunday, vendors will be offering special deals and discounted booths to attract customers.
Frazier emphasized the importance of supporting local businesses, not just for the goods they provide but for the people behind them. She shared stories of individuals who rely on their stalls at the mall for income. For example, a nurse runs a side business from her booth, while another vendor, a woman battling cancer, depends on sales to support herself.
“It matters because it’s their job, and so just like we have jobs, this is their job,” Frazier explained. “Whether it means extra money for their kids for sports, for food, for bills, whatever, it’s their job. But when you support local, it keeps your money local.”
She also noted that vendors are aware of the challenges customers face due to rising costs. Many work hard to keep prices fair and reasonable, ensuring that shoppers don’t feel taken advantage of.
“So, it’s not like you’re going to walk in and get price-gouged. Everybody is very conscious of it, they really want to make sure that they keep the prices, you know, equal and good,” she said.
KK’s Corner Mall has remained a staple in the Lubbock community for years. Frazier believes this is due to the trust and loyalty the mall has built over time.
“People just know us, and so when they come in, we haven’t really missed a beat. And I’m so thankful for that,” she said. “So, if I could say anything to the people of Lubbock and surrounding, thank you. Because it really, it helps support my family.”
Why Supporting Local Matters
Supporting local businesses goes beyond just purchasing goods. It helps sustain jobs, supports families, and strengthens the overall economy. When shoppers choose to buy from local vendors, they are contributing to the growth of their community.
Here are a few reasons why shopping locally can make a difference:
- Economic Impact: Local businesses often reinvest in the community, creating a cycle of economic growth.
- Personalized Service: Vendors are more likely to know their customers and offer tailored experiences.
- Unique Products: Local shops often carry items that aren’t found in larger chain stores.
- Community Connection: Shopping locally fosters a sense of belonging and connection among residents.
By choosing to support local businesses during the holiday season, shoppers can make a meaningful impact on the lives of real people in their community. Whether it's through a simple purchase or a visit to the mall, every act of support contributes to the continued success of these small businesses.
