The JTRAN workers' strike in Jackson has stretched into its fourth week, with union leaders and MV Transportation still at odds over wages and working conditions.
They resumed talks virtually on Wednesday, but Charles Tornes, ATU Local 1208 president, said an agreement still has not been reached.
Sign up for our NewslettersMV Transportation representatives told Jackson City Council members on Tuesday that the company and union met Monday and agreed on wages.
"It's not in stone that we've agreed on any wages yet. We've talked about it, and we're moving towards some agreements, but we've not had any tentative agreements yet," Tornes said.
Tornes added that wages and working conditions remain key points in the negotiations.
At Tuesday's council meeting, Councilman Kenneth Stokes attempted to terminate the city's contract with MV Transportation, but his motion failed when no other council member seconded it.
MV Transportation said all JTRAN routes have continued operating during the strike, using drivers brought in from across the country and Uber services to assist riders.
Tornes said striking workers are receiving financial support from the union and are prepared to continue the strike as negotiations continue.
