President Lee Jae Myung will chair an emergency meeting on the 27th to directly assess the damage to South Korean nationals affected by the large-scale floods in Nepal. As a result, the previously scheduled internal Cheong Wa Dae meetings and political schedules with ruling party lawmakers have been postponed.
Senior Spokesperson Kang Yu-jung of Cheong Wa Dae announced through a notice on the same day, “President Lee Jae Myung has decided to postpone the President-hosted Senior Secretaries’ Meeting scheduled within Cheong Wa Dae premises today and will instead chair an emergency meeting to review the damage to South Korean nationals related to the Nepal floods.” The government has entered a full-scale response system, prioritizing measures to ensure the safety and protection of overseas citizens.
To concentrate national capabilities on protecting overseas nationals and local response efforts, political schedules with the ruling party have also been postponed. Spokesperson Kang added, “Considering the situation where all efforts are being made to ensure the safety of our nationals, the luncheon scheduled for tomorrow (28th) with Democratic Party of Korea lawmakers has also been postponed.”
