UPDATE: Oregon Ducks running backs coach Ra'Shaad Samples confirmed that Jordon Davison practiced on Wednesday and "had a really good practice." Samples did not deny the fact that Davison may be dealing with an injury, but it appears that the severity of the injury, or the extent of the expected recovery, is not as tenuous as we previously reported.
Original Story: A potentially impactful injury has hit the Oregon Ducks in fall camp.
According to multiple sources close to the program, starting running back Jordon Davison has suffered an injury this past week that is expected to hold him out for the next 6-8 weeks, lasting throughout the remainder of camp and into the regular season.
Davison, who rushed for 667 yards and 15 touchdowns as a true freshman last year, missed Oregon’s final game of the year in the College Football Playoff Semifinal against the Indiana Hoosiers after suffering a broken collarbone in the Orange Bowl win over Texas Tech. Davison rushed for 42 yards and two touchdowns in that game, despite reportedly suffering the injury early in the game.
Without Davison in the lineup for the start of the season, the onus will be on the rest of the Oregon RB room to step up and produce. Fortunately, the Ducks are in a favorable position here, as they have guys like Dierre Hill, Simeon Price, Da’Jaun Riggs, Tradarian Ball, and Brandon Smith all capable of shouldering a bigger load.
With an expectation that Davison will miss between 6-8 weeks, his timeline would suggest that a return could happen as soon as the Week 4 showdown vs. the USC Trojans, but more likely after the bye against the UCLA Bruins in Week 6.
