“I did not get an official offer, but I was meeting with Joel Schumacher about ‘Batman & Robin,’” he explained. The role eventually went to Chris O’Donnell, and Wahlberg said it was fine with him because he wasn’t interested in that type of project.
This conversation was sparked by Leonardo DiCaprio, who recently expressed regret over turning down the lead role in “Boogie Nights,” which ultimately went to Wahlberg. DiCaprio admitted that he still feels bad about missing out on the opportunity. “My biggest regret is not doing ‘Boogie Nights,’” he said. “It was a profound movie of my generation. I can’t imagine anyone but Mark [Wahlberg] in it. When I finally got to see that movie, I just thought it was a masterpiece.”
