The 31st annual Gretna Fest is set to take place this upcoming weekend, promising a vibrant mix of music, food, and local culture. “I was over the moon and it was an honor. We’ve been trying for a long time,” said Steffon Lee, expressing his excitement about being selected as the poster artists. His wife, Desiree Buisson Lee, added, “There were immediate tears, and I was overwhelmed.”
The couple met years ago in art school and have continued to collaborate on various projects. For this year’s poster, titled “Gretna: Where The Music Sinks In,” they focused on conveying the deep cultural roots of the area and its connection to music. One of the standout elements of the design is the depiction of submerged instruments in the rocky Mississippi River, symbolizing the enduring presence of music in the community.
Desiree shared that her inspiration came from the idea of the festival as a nighttime event. “You see the dark colors and there are vibrant vibes from the brighter colors,” she explained. This contrast adds depth and energy to the artwork, reflecting the atmosphere of the festival itself.
In addition to the poster, the couple created a commemorative door hanger as lagniappe—a small token of appreciation for festivalgoers. This item will also be available at the event, offering fans a unique keepsake.
For those interested in acquiring a piece of the festival’s artistic legacy, a large version of the poster will be part of a live auction during the event. Two sizes of the poster will be sold: a 12×16 inch version for $65 and a larger 24×36 inch version for $100.
