Man accused of $700,000 NDIS fraud

A man in western Victoria has been arrested for allegedly scamming the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) out of about $700,000 using false invoices.

An investigation was launched by Victoria Police and the National Disability Insurance Agency after allegations an NDIS participant defrauded his plan between June 28, 2024, and June 30, 2026.

Police allege the 48-year-old man created two businesses, submitted false invoices for services he claimed to receive, and distributed funds to his bank accounts.

Detectives also allege he dealt with property suspected of being proceeds of crime.

Police searched a home in the Horsham area on Wednesday and arrested the man, who is due to be interviewed in relation to the allegations.

'The vast majority of NDIS participants and providers do the right thing and use Scheme funding appropriately,' a spokesperson for the National Disability Insurance Agency said.

'We will continue to use intelligence, data analytics and joint investigations to identify, detect and disrupt fraud, so NDIS funding is protected for the Australians who rely on it.'
